Rev. Dr. Mark Abbott is a United Methodist missionary with the General Board of Global Ministries assigned with his wife, Diane, also a GBGM missionary, to serve in Madrid, Spain. He is professor of New Testament in the United Evangelical Theological Seminary.

The United Evangelical Theological Seminary (SEUT) is an institution of the Spanish Evangelical Church and the Spanish Reformed Episcopal Church. Founded in 1884, it is the oldest Protestant seminary in Spain. SEUT offers both theological extension and residency programs. Their vision is to help prepare spiritual leaders, both clergy and lay, for the Spanish Protestant community without focusing upon a particular denomination.

Prior to this assignment in Spain, the Abbotts served in Monterey, Mexico, where Mark was professor of New Testament and academic dean of the John Wesley Seminary, one of two seminaries of the Methodist Church of Mexico.

During a previous period of service in Madrid, Mark taught at SEUT. Besides teaching at the seminary, he also served as pastor of the English-speaking Community Church of Madrid. This congregation relates to the Madrid Presbytery of the Spanish Evangelical Church. The Spanish Evangelical Church became a covenant church with The United Methodist Church in 1996.

A native of Lubbock, Texas, Mark earned a BA in Spanish from Oral Roberts University, and a Masters of Divinity from Asbury Theological Seminary. After seminary he served Plains UMC in Plains, Texas. Later, he attended Drew University where he obtained a Ph.D. in New Testament Studies. Mark is a John Wesley Fellow of A Foundation for Theological Education (AFTE). He is a clergy member of the Northwest Texas Annual Conference.

The Abbotts have three children: Andy, Caroline, and Christopher. Andrew was born in the US, Caroline in Madrid, Spain, and Christopher in Monterey, Mexico.

Diane Abbott is a United Methodist missionary with the General Board of Global Ministries. Diane, along with her husband, the Rev. Dr. Mark Abbott, is serving in Madrid, Spain.

Mrs. Abbott does materials production, translations and secretarial back-up at United Evangelical Theological Seminary, She is a harpist and pianist. She plays for seminary chapel services each Wednesday and is director of music and organist in the English-speaking Community Church of Madrid.

Prior to this assignment the Abbotts served in Monterrey, Mexico. Mrs. Abbott worked in family and community ministries, and was also pianist for the Union Church of Monterrey.

In her earlier term in Madrid, Mrs. Abbott served as hostess, musician, and choir leader at the English-speaking Community Church of Madrid. She shares, "Jesus ministered to those around him, not just by preaching and teaching, but helping them with everyday concerns. I was in a servant/encourager and, sometimes,leader role."

A native of Hamburg, New York, Diane earned a BA in Spanish from Oral Roberts University and a diploma in Spanish studies at the University of Granada in Spain. Prior to entering missions service, she was a bilingual secretary with a company in New Jersey.

Diane and husband Mark are the parents of three children: Andy, Caroline, and Christopher. Andrew was born in the U.S., Caroline in Madrid, Spain, and Christopher in Monterrey, Mexico.
